Success Stories
In September 2023, a historic moment unfolded in the New River Valley as New River Home Trust celebrated the sale of its very first home—marking a major milestone in permanently affordable homeownership. Thanks to NRHT’s innovative community land trust model, the new homeowner was able to purchase a quality home near Virginia Tech at a price nearly $100,000 below market value.
While most homes in the area were selling in the mid-$300,000s, this NRHT home closed in the low-$200,000s—proving just how transformative the model can be for local families. Backed by support from Community Housing Partners, Montgomery County, and the Town of Blacksburg, this first success story is paving the way for more homes, more equity, and more access to homeownership in our community.
